updated 5/19/10

Problem Connected my camera fine and the focusing works ok. I established that 0.01s was a good exposure level for focusing but when I take a full exposure (preview) I just get a white image irrespective of exposure time, even 0.001 sec. What am I doing wrong? What happens when frame and focus is working? Does it make the camera more sensitive?

Beginning astrophotographers tend to really underestimate ‘FLEX’…. Flexure can be the biggest problems when it comes to calibrating and guiding when using a second scope for guiding…. I began using PHD and loved the fact that I could use a webcam for auto guiding… I simply mounted the camera on a C90 Mac and the C90 was moun…

UPDATED 1/28/2010

I know that this doesn’t have anything to do with Imaging, but I thought that I would put down some tips to help protect you from identity theft. Identity theft is now the number one crime and it’s getting worse. Working in the retail business FOR 23 years I see countless people getting their informaion stolen and they say “I JUST DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THAT” Never get an attitude that you know everything there is to know about protecting yourself. That’s how thieves ge…

Q) Automatic Dark Scaling (Count 904) Warning -- could not find a suitable definition of hot pixel threshold after 20 iterations. Turning Automatic Dark Scaling OFF

A) Neb is trying to find a threshold by which it can say there are a reasonable number of hot pixels that are hot but not saturated. If it can’t find such a threshold, it coughs up that error and then does normal subtraction. With normal subtraction, saturated hot pixels will show up as black holes. Astrophotography has a steep learning curve with a lot of new concepts and techniques that beginners face. Even once you’re up and going and no longer a “newbie”, there is still a lot to learn. Even the author of the software is still learning new things all the time about how to take the best images and how to get the most out of the images during processing.
